Trade Association Issues New Technical Backgrounder Detailing Power Saving Features of FireWire

The 1394 Trade Association has released a detailed new report highlighting the environmental benefits and overall power-saving advantages of IEEE 1394.

Entitled, “How Green is My FireWire,” the new backgrounder identifies the ways in which the IEEE 1394 standard optimizes power and energy savings when users connect storage devices and other peripherals with FireWire.  It was developed by Bill Rose, a veteran consumer electronics industry consultant who has served on the 1394 Trade Association board of directors and currently is chairman of the High Definition Audio/Video Network Alliance (HANA).

“At a time when both individual consumers and companies are trying to reduce their carbon footprint, products equipped with the FireWire (IEEE 1394) standard are an excellent choice. Plenty of power can be saved, and waste can be eliminated right now using FireWire,” said Rose.  “And, there are additional opportunities to save even more if companies take full advantage of all of the standard’s capabilities.”
